London Marathon Runner Tastes 25 Wines, Raises £14,000 for Charity
A man named Tom Gilbey, 52, participated in the London Marathon while tasting and identifying 25 different wines at each mile, raising over £14,000 for charity.
He carried two glasses in his running belt and attempted to name the vintage, grape, and producer of each wine.
Gilbey correctly identified 21 wines but made errors towards the end of the race as his judgement became impaired.
A veteran wine taster, who avoided feeling tipsy by taking small sips or not swallowing wine, was surprised by a poor batch during a wine tasting event organized by his son.
Despite starting with good wines, a series of bad ones followed, including one that was replaced by a fridge due to its unpleasant taste.
The event's marketing manager, Freddie, had deceptively stashed the good wines at the beginning, leading the taster into a false sense of security.
Mr. Gilbey, a man with a background in marathon running, attempted to participate in a wine tasting event after a long hiatus from training.
His preparation consisted of a 10km run and wine tasting.
During the event, he expressed disappointment and sadness after each tasting, stating his recovery strategy was a glass of sparkling wine and water in between tastings of chardonnay and sangiovese.
