London City Hall Condemns Blast Targeting Clean Air Zone Camera
City Hall in London has denounced an explosion that damaged a camera enforcing the city's Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ).
This act of vandalism in southeast London's Sidcup suburb, viewed as deliberate by authorities, could have been fatal.
Despite contention over the recent ULEZ expansion and subsequent vandalism of enforcement cameras, authorities, including London Mayor Sadiq Khan's spokesperson, are treating the incident seriously.
The camera, installed just hours before, was first cut down, then further damaged by an explosion from a simple homemade device, which also affected nearby property.
However, no injuries were reported. Specialist police, not treating the event as terrorism, continue to investigate. London Mayor Sadiq Khan supports ULEZ for its health and environmental benefits, while critics highlight the financial burden during economic hardships.
