Local becomes first to represent an OT as delegate in Int'l Leadership Programme

A local woman will become the first-ever Overseas Territory delegate to participate at the UK’s Foreign & Commonwealth Office International Leadership Programme (ILP) next month.
She is April Glasgow of Long Look, Tortola and is among 187 nominees from 103 British Diplomatic Posts to be selected within the 60 available positions.

Speaking to BVI News, the young entrepreneur Glasgow said she was thrilled to be selected and said she intends to make the BVI proud when she participates in the 10-day leadership programme in November.

“I really appreciate the opportunity. I’m being considered an emerging leader and that title alone is humbling,” Glasgow said. “I’m looking forward to the networking experience and learning more about how to bring the lessons learned back to the BVI.”

Meanwhile, Governor Augustus Jaspert congratulated Glasgow for her milestone achievement. He said it will provide an opportunity for professional advancement and networking with various leaders from across the globe.

“I encourage you to take advantage of the journey that you will embark on and seek out every opportunity to expand your knowledge in the communications field in an effort to make significant contributions towards the development of the Territory,” Governor Jaspert stated.

A government media release on Glasgow’s achievement describes the ILP as being designed to create and develop lasting relationships with future leaders who may have an impact on the UK’s global interest.

It will also include “a range of visits, discussions and meetings with senior UK decision-makers and opinion formers, in government, parliament, the media, civil society, education and business industries”.
