Leicester City Football Club fined £880,000 for colluding with JD Sports to restrict competition in kit sales

Both parties admitted to breaking competition law over three football seasons by fixing prices and limiting the sale of branded clothes and replica kit.

The CMA said that fans may have paid more for goods as a result of the collusion.

JD Sports evaded a fine by reporting the illegal conduct and admitting its participation.

The company was granted a leniency application, provided it continues to co-operate and comply with the CMA.

The fine on Leicester City FC sends a clear message to businesses that anti-competitive collusion will not be tolerated, according to the executive director of enforcement at the CMA.

However, the club insists it had no intention of wrongdoing and has taken steps to strengthen its training and compliance measures to ensure compliance with competition law.
