Labour would force AI firms to share their technology’s test data

Labour intends to make artificial intelligence companies share test data, moving from voluntary cooperation to a legally mandated system to ensure transparency.

The party aims to avoid past mistakes of not adequately overseeing social media by compelling AI firms to disclose testing outcomes.

Shadow technology secretary Peter Kyle emphasized the need for openness, especially in light of incidents like Brianna Ghey's murder, advocating for a clear understanding of AI advancements under Labour's oversight.

The party proposes that AI businesses must declare their intent to develop advanced AI systems and submit to safety evaluations with independent monitoring.

This change follows a non-binding deal set by Rishi Sunak at the global AI safety summit, which major tech firms agreed to. Kyle, on a US visit, highlighted that test results will assist the UK AI Safety Institute in ensuring AI's impact on society and workplaces is carefully managed.
