For King, a former Royal Marine, the event evoked memories of his own military training, including navigating an underwater tunnel known as the "Sheep Dip."

These marines are part of a five-year program aimed at creating a specialized marine corps to counter al-Qaeda-inspired group al-Shabaab along the Somali border, with support from the Royal Marines and the US Marine Corps.

After arriving at the exercise by boat, the royal couple witnessed the marines' capabilities, including a simulated firefight. Captain Sam Powell of 40 Commando provided commentary during the exercise.

The King engaged in conversation with the Kenyan marines, asking about their experiences with the Royal Marines and their training.

This visit highlighted defense collaboration between the UK and Kenya, and the royal couple also interacted with the families of Kenyan military personnel, showing appreciation for their dedication.

The Kenyan Marine Commando Unit, which graduated in May, is envisioned as an elite fighting force capable of conducting specialized amphibious operations to counter threats like al-Shabaab.
