The 75-year-old monarch will pause his official duties briefly during his recovery, the BBC has reported. This follows news that the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, is in the hospital after abdominal surgery.

Buckingham Palace released a statement noting that the King's condition is benign and that his procedure is not unusual for men his age. Post-surgery, he will need a short period to recuperate before resuming royal engagements.

The NHS explains that benign prostate enlargement is a common condition among men over 50 and isn't typically serious or indicative of prostate cancer risk.

In other news, Kate Middleton is recuperating from planned abdominal surgery at a private hospital, scheduled to stay for up to two weeks.

Kensington Palace informed the public of her hospitalization, adding that the Princess wishes to keep her medical details private and maintain normalcy for her children. She intends to return to her royal responsibilities as soon as she can.
