Kim Jong Un, the North Korean leader, made headlines this week when he was seen using a foldable smartphone during a missile launch.

Photos released by the official Rodong Sinmun newspaper showed Kim with a silver foldable handset in black leather casing, which resembled Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip or Huawei's Pocket S phones.

The photo sparked speculation about where the phone came from, as North Korea is banned under UN sanctions from importing or exporting electronic devices.

It is believed that the phone may have been secretly smuggled into the country via China.

Kim's love for gadgets has been a subject of curiosity in the past.

He has been pictured using Apple products, including iPads and Macbooks.

The use of such high-end devices is surprising given the limited access to technology in North Korea, where only around 19 percent of the population is estimated to have access to mobile phones, according to the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) World Factbook.

The launch of the solid-fuel Hwasong-18 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) was a significant event in North Korean history.

The missile is believed to have the capability to reach the US mainland, making it a major threat to the security of the region.

The United States and its allies have called for more sanctions against North Korea in response to the launch.

North Korea has been developing its missile program in defiance of international sanctions and condemnation.

The US and South Korea have accused the country of using its missile program to intimidate other countries and to create a nuclear threat.

In response to the launch, the US and South Korea have announced plans for a joint military exercise in the coming days.

The exercise is expected to involve the deployment of American troops and aircraft, as well as South Korean military forces.

The launch of the Hwasong-18 ICBM has heightened tensions in the region and prompted concerns about the possibility of a nuclear conflict.

The international community is closely monitoring the situation and urging North Korea to abandon its nuclear program.
