Keir Starmer has had a portrait of Margaret Thatcher removed from No 10 Downing Street, according to his biographer Tom Baldwin.

This occurred in Thatcher’s former No 10 study, unofficially known as the Thatcher Room.

The portrait, created by Richard Stone and commissioned by Gordon Brown in 2009, was the first of a former prime minister to be displayed in No 10.

Some Conservative members have criticized Starmer's decision, calling it disrespectful.

Last December, however, Starmer did praise Thatcher for her contributions to Britain.
