The celebrated full-back, who led Wales to seven Five Nations titles, six Triple Crowns, and three Grand Slams, also played a vital role in two successful Lions tours.
Colleague John Taylor lauded Williams as a game-changing player who became an English team nemesis, especially excelling at creating openings in the game.
With 55 caps for Wales and distinguished performances in the Lions tours, Williams' athletic achievements were extensive. Beyond rugby, he showcased talent in tennis and squash and had a love for music, evident from his choral and instrumental contributions at Bridgend Tabernacle Choir.
As well as being a sportsman, Williams was an accomplished orthopaedic surgeon. His children honored his memory with readings at the service, which included five hymns, musical tributes, and closed with a collective singing of the Welsh anthem.
Rugby greats Sir Gareth Edwards and Terry Cobner praised Williams as an innovator and inspiration both on and off the field.
