Hundreds of fell runners formed a guard of honor at the funeral of record-breaking athlete Joss Naylor, who passed away last month at age 88.

The cortege, led to the church at Wasdale Head in the Lake District, saw runners race up to 8 miles wearing club colors.

The funeral service took place at St Olaf’s Church, with a local teenage cornet player leading the procession.

Known as the King of the Fells, Naylor broke multiple records including the Lake District 24-hour record and the Three Peaks.

He was appointed MBE in 1976 for his services to sport and charity.

Documentarian Terry Abraham remembered Naylor as a humble and passionate individual.

The Fell Runners Association honored his wish for a colorful celebration of his life, with attendees walking in front of the cortege.

Naylor raised about forty thousand pounds for the Brathay Trust from 2007 to 2019.
