Skidmore, a former Conservative minister, stepped down as an MP prior to a vote on legislation ensuring yearly licensing rounds for oil and gas, citing it as a step back from UK climate commitments.

Hunt, while acknowledging Skidmore's passion for climate issues, stands by domestic oil and gas as a cleaner alternative to imports and necessary for energy security.

Hunt, speaking on national issues, highlighted the cut to National Insurance payments. Additionally, he addressed concerns about attacks on shipping in the Red Sea by Houthi rebels, emphasizing the importance of domestic energy sources in such uncertainties and assuring that the UK is responding to the threat to global trade.

Addressing economic resilience and challenges, Hunt pointed out that the British economy has performed well compared to other major economies since 2010 and is committed to supporting families and reducing inflation to tackle high mortgage rates.

He contradicted Sir Howard Davies' initial comments on the challenges of securing a mortgage, acknowledging the difficulties faced by homebuyers.
