Jeremy Clarkson says Piers Morgan ‘lost his job for nothing’ over Meghan Markle

Jeremy Clarkson says Piers Morgan ‘lost his job for nothing’ over Meghan Markle

Jeremy Clarkson has shared his views on Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey and the resulting fallout for Piers Morgan.

The Grand Tour host, 60, spoke out on Piers, 55, quitting Good Morning Britain following the backlash over his comments about Meghan, including doubting whether she had had suicidal thoughts before she and Prince Harry stepped down from the Royal family.

While Jeremy admitted it was ‘weird for him’ to agree with Piers on anything, he believes Piers ‘lost his job for nothing’ after refusing to apologise to Meghan on-air for what he had said.

Jeremy wrote in his column for The Sun that the monarchy has survived worse than the shock revelations Meghan and Harry shared – including claims that a member of the Royal family had expressed ‘concerns’ about what colour Archie’s skin would be before he was born.

The former Top Gear presenter wrote: ‘If the British monarchy can soldier on through that, I’m fairly sure it’ll be able to weather the banal musings of a silly little cable TV actress.’

He added: ‘Trust me on this one. Markle’s toast, and within five years, I suspect she’ll be posing for photographs, on her own outside the Taj Mahal or sitting on the back of a playboy’s yacht in the Med, and poor old Piers will realise that he lost his job over absolutely nothing at all.’

Piers stepped down after over 57,000 people complained about his comments about Meghan Markle

Over 57,000 people had complained about Piers’s comments about Meghan to Ofcom, including Meghan herself.

During his rant, Piers had claimed not to have believed anything Meghan had said, saying on GMB: ‘I’m sorry, I don’t believe a word she said, Meghan Markle.

‘I wouldn’t believe it if she read me the weather report. The fact that she’s fired up this onslaught against our Royal Family I think is contemptible.’

After his departure from the show was announced, he tweeted: ‘On Monday, I said I didn’t believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview

‘I’ve had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still don’t. If you did, OK. Freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on.

‘Thanks for all the love, and hate. I’m off to spend more time with my opinions.’
