Jamaican Tony-Ann Singh wins Miss World 2019; VI makes Top 40 for first time

Tony-Ann Singh out of Jamaica is the new Miss World 2019, rising to the top to claim the crown when this year's edition of the beauty pageant was held today December 14, 2019, at the ExCeL London in the United Kingdom.

Receiving the crown from Miss World 2018, Vanessa Ponce de León out of Mexico, Miss Singh was trailed by Ophely Mezino of France and Suman Rao of India who were the first and second runners up respectively.

While Miss BVI Rikkiya A. R. Brathwaite did not capture the crown, she made the territory proud by securing the “Top Sports Woman” 2019 award in addition to coming in second in the Talent competition.

More significantly, she made the Top 40 cut, paving the way for future VI queens to aspire to make even greater strides on behalf of the territory with Chairman of the Miss World BVI Organisation, Mr Damian C. Grange having said he was “super impressed” with her representation this year.

4th win for Jamaica

At today's heated pageant, the top five contestants participated in the final question-and-answer round with British broadcaster Piers Morgan as a judge at the event, asking the finalists to answer the questions with Jamaica coming up on top.

Miss Singh is the fourth Jamaican to be crowned Miss World. Her success follows that of Carole J. Crawford (1963), Cindy J. C. Breakspeare (1976), and Lisa Hanna (1993).

Miss World 2019 was the 69th edition of the contest and contestants from 120 countries competed for the title.
