The occurrence sparked outrage among opposition members; Elly Schlein, of the Democratic Party, criticized the party's lax stance on firearms, reflecting a recent proposal to lower the hunting rifle permit age to 16.
Former Prime Minister Matteo Renzi also condemned the incident, questioning the MPs' judgement and deeming Meloni's party as "inadequate, incapable, and dangerous." The party has not yet officially responded.
