Irish Government Steps In to Fund Student Nursing and Midwifery Places in Northern Ireland
The Irish government will fund student nursing and midwifery places at universities in Northern Ireland, following a cut of 300 places announced in Stormont's budget cuts.
The majority of the placements will be for students from the Republic of Ireland, with a proportion reserved for Northern Ireland students.
Once the students graduate, they will be able to work on both sides of the border.
The Irish Department of Health will fund 200 nursing places for students from the Republic of Ireland, and the Northern Ireland Department of Health welcomes the arrangement, which will maintain the current training infrastructure and benefit the health service.
