Boycotting the trial, Mohammadi now faces further penalties, including a two-year exile away from Tehran, a similar duration for a travel ban, and a ban on smartphone usage upon release.

This latest ruling marks her fifth sentencing since March 2021, cumulatively resulting in over twelve years of imprisonment, 154 lashes, and a variety of social and political prohibitions.

Her family has condemned the court's decision as a "political statement," referencing charges of incitement against the Islamic regime.

Awarded the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize for her human rights advocacy, Mohammadi's family received the prize on her behalf in December.

Despite a history of repeated incarcerations over the last twenty years, she continues her activism from Evin prison, denouncing rights abuses and the death penalty, and challenging the compulsory hijab law.

Her noncompliance with the hijab mandate has led to further repercussions, including restrictions on phone privileges.
