Bach criticized Russia's manipulation of doping controls at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics and defended the decision to only permit Russian athletes who repudiate the war to participate as neutrals without national symbols in Paris.

As tensions rise with Moscow, Bach indicated no willingness to soften his stance, particularly given the aggressive rhetoric from Russian officials. He highlighted the origins of the conflict, pointing to Russia's actions in Ukraine as a direct cause for the IOC's measures.

Bach's remarks follow accusations from Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, claiming Bach has betrayed Olympic values. Nonetheless, the Court of Arbitration for Sport has upheld the IOC's balanced strategy towards Russian and Belarusian athletes.

Bach also assured that security precautions would be in place for Israeli athletes at the Paris Games due to heightened tensions from the Gaza conflict.

He guaranteed the Israeli team's safety in the Olympic village and during matches across French cities, referencing longstanding protective measures taken since the tragic events in Munich. Bach reaffirmed that in the Olympic village, all athletes would be treated equally.
