Lathaniel Burrell, a 16-year-old schoolboy, was shot dead on Tuesday afternoon near Stockwell Tube station in south London.

The incident occurred around 3:21 PM on Paradise Road, prompting calls to the Metropolitan Police and paramedics.

Tragically, despite their efforts, Lathaniel was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses reported that the assailants appeared to be riding a moped and were dressed as Deliveroo delivery drivers.

Eyewitness accounts detailed a scenario in which two boys exited a nearby block of flats, at which point the moped rider produced a firearm and shot Lathaniel; the second boy fled the scene while the shooter sped away.

Family members, who visited the site to pay their respects, confirmed the victim's name and described him as a bright student with a passion for Manchester United football and video gaming.

Relatives characterized him as well-liked in the local community.

One resident stated, "He is great at looking after this community,” while others emphasized his positive reputation at school.

The police have initiated a full investigation, with local officers gathering CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses.

Superintendent Gabriel Cameron, who is overseeing the investigation, expressed condolences to the family and asserted that the police would not rest until those responsible were identified and apprehended.

In addition to uniformed patrols, specialist homicide detectives are expected to join the inquiry.

The shooting has raised alarm within the Stockwell community, with local residents articulating their distress over the violence, particularly involving a minor.

Close observers noted that while Stockwell has experienced theft-related crimes, incidents of this magnitude have been rare.

Adrian Lindo, a resident of the area, expressed concern over the ongoing youth violence and the need for lessons from past incidents.

Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, echoed these sentiments, stating that such violence has no place in the city and emphasizing a commitment to increased police presence in the aftermath of the incident.

The community is mourning the loss, with officials such as Florence Eshalomi, the MP for Vauxhall, underscoring the tragic nature of this event.

Crime scene investigations remain active, and local authorities have urged witnesses to come forward with any information that may assist in identifying the shooters.
