Recent statistics indicate a 4% decrease in Indian applications and a 46% decline in Nigerian applications, attributed to a review of the Graduate Route visa by UK's Rishi Sunak administration and tighter rules on dependents accompanying students on scholarships.

While UCAS notes a general increase in international interest, with notable rises from China, Turkey, and Canada, the biggest drops are from Nigeria and India.

The review of the post-study work visa, particularly relevant to Indian students who comprised 43% of the visas granted last year, and the crackdown on dependents for non-postgraduate research courses could be reasons for this decline.

UCAS CEO Dr. Jo Saxton mentions a drop in mature student applications, particularly impacting subjects like nursing. She advises that students can still apply until June 30 or via Clearing afterwards, with resources available on the UCAS website to assist with higher education decisions.
