Indi Gregory: Latest end of life care appeal turned down

The family of Indi Gregory, a critically ill baby with mitochondrial disease, had their appeal to manage her life support at home rejected by the Court of Appeal.

The ruling determined that Indi's care could only be withdrawn at a hospice or hospital. The judges labeled the appeal "entirely without merit" and highlighted the challenging situation for doctors involved in such cases.

Indi has been on full life support since early September, experiencing significant pain and distress. Her parents wanted to bring her home for extubation, but a judge amended this decision, disallowing home extubation.

Efforts to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights and transfer Indi to a hospital in Rome were unsuccessful. In October, a judge ruled that withdrawing life support was in Indi's best interests.

Despite the ruling, Indi's parents remain committed to fighting for their daughter. Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust emphasized their focus on providing specialized care in accordance with the court's decision and supporting the family.
