McKellen expressed gratitude towards NHS staff for their exceptional care.
Player Kings, directed by Robert Icke, will resume performances on 20 June and continue its run before moving to the Bristol Hippodrome in July.
McKellen is known for his roles as Gandalf in Lord of the Rings and Magneto in X-Men, with a career spanning over six decades.
