Hollande Declares End to Macron’s Political Ascendancy

Former French President Francois Hollande announced the political ascendancy of current President Emmanuel Macron is over. Despite Macron's re-election in 2022, he lost his absolute majority in Parliament and enacted controversial reforms. Hollande's Socialist Party, now aligned with the New Popular Front (NFP), is competing against the far-right National Rally (RN) in upcoming snap elections.

Hollande made the statement on June 22, 2024, in Ussel, France while campaigning to become an MP in Correze, central France.

Despite Macron's re-election in 2022, the President lost his absolute majority in Parliament and faced a damaging loss in the June 9 European Parliament election, initiating plans for a snap election on June 30 and July 7.

Hollande's Socialist Party, part of the New Popular Front (NFP) alliance, is vying against the far-right National Rally (RN), which is currently leading in polls.

Hollande emphasized the political and public morale costs of Macron's rule and positioned himself as a responsible and vigilant candidate.
