HMS Duncan Deployed to Protect Middle East Trade Routes
Royal Navy warship HMS Duncan has deployed to protect trade routes in the Middle East. It replaces HMS Diamond, which shot down a missile from Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen. The crew, led by Cdr Dan Lee, set off from Portsmouth and will train in the Mediterranean before heading to Yemen.
The Royal Navy warship HMS Duncan has been deployed to safeguard international trade routes in the Middle East.
The ship departed from Portsmouth on Sunday, headed towards the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
HMS Duncan replaces HMS Diamond, which has been on duty since before Christmas and intercepted a missile from Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen back in April.
The vessel, crewed by 200 personnel, recently prepared for its mission under the leadership of Commanding Officer Cdr Dan Lee.
This Type 45 destroyer will operate around the clock to secure maritime safety.
The crew includes more than 60 new members, such as Able Rating Charles Henderson on his first deployment.
The ship will conduct training in the Mediterranean before proceeding through the Suez Canal towards Yemen.
