Flood warnings issued for parts of the south coast, specifically Hampshire, Dorset, and the Isle of Wight, due to heavy rainfall and further rainfall expected during the weekend. The Environment Agency has identified areas at risk of flooding, including Ryde on the Isle of Wight, Christchurch Harbour, Hamble estuary, and East Cowes.
A Met Office weather warning for rain has been extended until Sunday evening, with blustery winds and heavy showers expected around coastal areas. The Environment Agency anticipates that high tides or large waves may flood low-lying land and roads.
Residents are advised to stay away from coastal paths, piers, and promenades and not to drive through floodwater, as even 30cm of flowing water can move a car. Hampshire County Council has additional resources on standby to clear excess water from highways and address tree debris.
The Environment Agency plans to issue more flood warnings over the weekend and on Monday. Parts of the Isle of Wight are still recovering from flooding earlier in the week, and concerns have been raised about flood defense preparations in the area.
Residents are encouraged to report property flooding to the Environment Agency and seek advice from insurance companies. Temporary information hubs have been set up to support affected residents, and a hotel in Ryde is offering assistance to those whose homes have been flooded.
