Iran’s Revolutionary Guards announced that Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of Palestinian militant group Hamas, was killed in Tehran by a short-range projectile with a 7-kg warhead.
The assassination, carried out on Wednesday, has heightened fears of direct conflict between Tehran and Israel.
Both Iran and Hamas have blamed Israel for the killing, while Israeli officials have not claimed responsibility.
The Revolutionary Guards pledged severe and timely revenge against the 'terrorist Zionist regime' and also blamed the U.S. for supporting the attack.
