Dissenters, demanding a ban on private flights for their high pollution rates compared to commercial planes, marched from the town center to the airport, led by Extinction Rebellion Waverley and drummers.

Thunberg criticized society's tolerance of private jet use amidst a climate crisis, while an Extinction Rebellion representative, Todd Smith, highlighted the contrast between the rising cost of living and the affluent flying privately.

A local office assistant, Sarah Hart, expressed shock over the expansion plans amid climate concerns.

Despite promises of 950 jobs and a £220m economic boost, the airport faces scrutiny. An airport representative emphasized its role in business travel and smaller environmental impact compared to larger airports.

The Airport Carbon Accreditation programme acknowledges their environmental efforts. However, the East Hampshire District Council warned the expansion could thwart carbon reduction and elevate noise pollution.
