Carla Denyer, a Green MP, has described a 20-month prison sentence handed to 77-year-old Gaie Delap for a climate protest on the M25 as disproportionate, unjust, and a waste of resources.

Delap, from Bristol, was imprisoned for participating in disruptive protests aimed at stopping new fossil fuel exploration.

During the four-day protest, Delap and other Just Stop Oil supporters climbed gantries over the M25, causing significant traffic disruptions.

The Home Office has been contacted for comment.
