In discussions that have shifted toward a more cooperative tone, Greece is considering a cultural partnership that could resolve the long-standing controversy involving the artifacts, which the British Museum acquired from Lord Elgin in 1816.

The museum's chair, George Osborne, has expressed a willingness to negotiate a mutually beneficial agreement, which may include unprecedented loans of Greek items to the UK.

The potential deal, which requires adherence to Greek cultural heritage laws, could involve rotating exhibitions to maintain interest in the British Museum's Greek galleries.

Talks continue despite political tensions, and Greece maintains that the sculptures, significant components of a World Heritage site, should be restored to their original context.

The idea of a British Museum branch at the Acropolis museum has been dismissed. With increasing public support in the UK for repatriating the marbles and other countries engaging in repatriation efforts, Greece is hopeful but open to using cultural diplomacy rather than legal action.

The issue has gained moral support, with even previously opposed individuals now favoring the return of the marbles to the Acropolis Museum.
