Gove Defies Report Findings, Refuses to Vote for Johnson Suspension

Michael Gove, the housing secretary, has stated that he will not vote for a report that found Boris Johnson deliberately misled Parliament over PartyGate.

The report, from the Commons privileges committee, has a Tory majority and found that Johnson had personal knowledge of rule-breaking and failed to seek assurances about compliance.

The report also recommends a 90-day suspension for Johnson, but since he has resigned as an MP, the suspension will not apply.

Gove believes that a ban of such length is not merited by the evidence presented in the report and that there are "complexities" to consider.

The report also calls for Johnson to be stripped of his parliamentary pass, but it is unclear if a division will take place to approve the report, as Johnson has asked his supporters not to vote against it.
