Patons Accident Repair Centre, a business located inside the LEZ boundary, had brought a motion to suspend the scheme ahead of further court action.

However, a judge ruled that the balance of convenience lay heavily in favor of the local authority, and the LEZ will come into force as planned.

The LEZ aims to reduce air pollution in the city by banning more polluting vehicles from the city center.

The ruling was welcomed by Asthma + Lung Scotland, who described air pollution as a public health emergency.

Scottish Conservative transport spokesman Graham Simpson argued that the legal challenges highlighted the way in which the "practical concerns of local businesses and communities had been ignored" by Glasgow's SNP and Green councillors.
