This supports earlier data. Meanwhile, Italy reported a decrease in inflation to 0.6%, slightly down by 0.1% from the month before, aligning with initial estimates.

Energy prices spiked by 4.1% in Germany, driving the inflation surge. Despite 2023's inflation being lower than the record high of 2022, prices, especially for food, remain markedly high, noted Ruth Brand of Germany's Federal Statistical Office.

Concurrently, Germany's economy showed an unexpected contraction last year.

Italy, conversely, showed a modest increase in energy prices of 1.2%, sharply contrasting the dramatic 50.9% hike in 2022. This information comes from Istat.

However, Italy is also facing challenges such as waning consumer confidence and a shrinking manufacturing sector, casting a shadow over its economic outlook for 2024.
