Germany Closes Iranian Consulates Over Dual National's Execution

Diplomatic Tensions Rise After Execution of Jamshid Sharmahd

01 November 2024 · 16:43 UTC

Germany will close all Iranian consulates within its borders in response to the execution of Jamshid Sharmahd, a German-Iranian citizen.

The decision, announced by the German foreign ministry on Thursday, reflects heightened tensions between Berlin and Tehran following the execution.

While the Iranian embassy in Germany will remain operational, Germany has taken the additional step of recalling its ambassador from Iran.

Furthermore, the Iranian charge d'affaires was summoned to formally express Berlin's protest against the execution.
