Khalid El-Estal, a man who grew up in Belfast, has suffered a tragic loss after his wife and family members were killed in a bombing in Gaza.
He had been working in Saudi Arabia while his family stayed in the Palestinian territory, which is under bombardment as part of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Following the death of his wife and family, El-Estal is seeking assistance from the Irish government to bring his two young children, who are Irish citizens, to safety in Dublin.
The bombing that resulted in his family's deaths occurred after he had arranged for them to stay with relatives for safety. El-Estal is now facing the painful task of dealing with his loss and hoping for his children's safe relocation.
The Irish Department of Foreign Affairs has acknowledged the complexity of evacuations from Gaza, stating they will take time, a statement that highlights El-Estal's urgency and grief.
