The children, aged four and one, crossed the Rafah border into Egypt.

Tánaiste (Irish deputy prime minister) Micheál Martin reported that 23 Irish citizens, including families with children, had successfully crossed into Egypt from Gaza. Efforts were ongoing to evacuate more Irish citizens from the conflict zone.

The conflict in Gaza escalated after Hamas's attacks on October 7th, resulting in numerous casualties, including children. Irish citizens and dependents have been evacuating the region with support from the Irish Embassy in Cairo.

The situation in Gaza remains a matter of concern, with efforts focused on ensuring the safety and evacuation of those affected by the ongoing conflict.
