A woman in her 40s sustained life-threatening injuries after a funfair ride malfunctioned at the Lambeth Country Show in Brockwell Park, South London.

A man in his 40s is also being treated for potentially life-changing injuries.

The incident, which took place on Saturday around 6:20 PM, involved a ride topped with a giant frog.

Four people were hospitalized: the woman and man in their 40s, a man in his 50s, and an 11-year-old girl.

The man in his 50s and the 11-year-old girl have since been discharged.

On Sunday, the park reopened but rides were closed for investigation.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and Met Police are leading inquiries.

The show, which has been held since 1974 and draws over 120,000 visitors annually, will see ongoing ride closures as a result of the investigation.

Local Labour candidate Helen Hayes called for an urgent investigation into the incident.
