A fundraiser for two Metropolitan Police constables who were fired for gross misconduct has raised £65,000. The officers had been found to have lied about smelling cannabis in the car of British athlete Bianca Williams and her partner.
The disciplinary panel determined that the officers' actions amounted to gross misconduct. The fundraiser has garnered support from some serving officers and police associations, leading to accusations of a toxic culture within the Met. Ms. Williams and her partner alleged racial profiling when they were searched outside their home in 2020. The couple was handcuffed and searched on suspicion of having drugs and weapons, but nothing was found.
