In response to mounting concerns over a potential fourth night of riots, the French government has deployed 45,000 police officers across the country. Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin announced the deployment as he revealed that 917 individuals were arrested on Thursday night, including some as young as 13. The government is urging parents to keep their children away from the riots.

As part of their efforts to restore order, the government has requested the suspension of overnight bus and tram services. Additionally, law enforcement agencies have been authorized to utilize armored vehicles to aid their operations.

The UK Foreign Office has taken note of the escalating situation and updated its guidance for British citizens traveling to France. It advises travelers to monitor the media closely and to avoid areas where protests are taking place.

The unrest originally erupted on Tuesday following the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old boy of Algerian descent named Nahel M by the police. The officer responsible for the shooting has issued an apology to the boy's family. However, Nahel's death has reignited deep-seated grievances regarding policing practices and racial profiling in the suburbs of France.

The situation remains tense as France grapples with social unrest and widespread discontent. The deployment of such a large number of police officers underscores the seriousness of the situation and the government's determination to maintain public order. The ongoing riots highlight the urgent need for meaningful dialogue and efforts to address the root causes of the unrest, including issues related to policing, discrimination, and social inequality.
