Four University of Essex Students Killed in Colchester Car Crash
Four students, including three basketball players, died in a crash early Saturday morning in Colchester.
Four students from the University of Essex were killed in a tragic car crash in Colchester on Saturday morning.
Makyle Bayley, 22, Eva Darold-Tchikaya, 21, Anthony Hibbert, 24, and Daljang Wol, 22, died at the scene when their car collided with a building on Magdalen Street around 4:40 a.m. Police do not believe any other vehicles were involved and have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
They are urging witnesses or anyone with relevant footage to come forward.
The students were active in university clubs, including basketball, where Hibbert and Wol were members of the Essex Rebels men's team, Bayley played for the BUCS basketball team, and Darold-Tchikaya was involved with the Essex Blades dance club.
The University's acting vice-chancellor, Prof Maria Fasli, described their deaths as devastating, noting their promise and contributions to the university community.
Essex police assistant chief constable Stuart Hooper extended condolences to the families of the victims.
