The group of asylum seekers protested outside the hotel on Wednesday and Thursday night after being asked to share rooms, with some claiming they were told to sleep in sleeping bags due to the lack of beds and bedding.

They were moved to a central London B&B, but around 30 people in the group still refused to stay there and spent at least one night on the street.

The furious leader of Westminster Council, Adam Hug, wrote to the Home Secretary demanding to know why the town hall was not informed about the move to the borough, and warned that the Government risked putting residents and migrants in danger.

The Home Office said they expected the highest standards from their accommodation providers and spoke to them daily about performance, adding that the accommodation offered to asylum seekers was of a decent standard and met all legal and contractual requirements.
