Former UK Labour MP Ivor Caplin Arrested in Paedophile Sting Operation

Former UK Labour MP Ivor Caplin Arrested in Paedophile Sting Operation

The former Hove MP, suspended last year over serious allegations, has been detained by Sussex Police following an online sting operation.
In a startling development, Ivor Caplin, a former Labour MP and notable figure in British politics, was arrested by Sussex Police during a paedophile sting operation on January 11, 2025.

Video footage circulating on social media shows Caplin, clad in a black trench coat and red cap, being apprehended by police officers in Brighton, a scene that has drawn significant public attention.

The arrest follows Caplin's suspension from the Labour Party in May 2024, which was due to serious but undisclosed allegations.

Caplin continues to deny these accusations.

Sussex Police have confirmed the arrest of a 66-year-old male, which corresponds to Caplin's age, on suspicion of engaging in sexual communication with a child.

This is part of an ongoing investigation, and the suspect remains in custody.

Officers were also observed taking possession of the arrested individual's phone as potential evidence.

Caplin, who served as the MP for Hove from 1997 to 2005, played a noteworthy role during his tenure.

Notably, he was appointed as the Assistant Government Whip in 2001 and served as a junior Defence Minister and Minister for Veterans at the Ministry of Defence.

Despite his current legal troubles, Caplin has consistently stated his innocence regarding the accusations levied against him.

Authorities have refrained from disclosing further details, emphasizing that investigations are active and ongoing.

The case has prompted a significant online dialogue, considering Caplin’s prior public service and political influence.

Political analysts and the public alike are keenly observing the developments of this investigation.

Caplin's political career was punctuated by his suspension from the Labour Party last year, following which he has not been affiliated with any political organization.

As the investigation proceeds, there are broader implications on how such allegations are handled within political parties and the measures they take to protect vulnerable populations.

The public awaits additional information as this high-profile case unfolds.
