Former Conservative MP Mark Logan has announced his support for Labour at the next general election, citing the party's centrist politics and potential to rejuvenate British public life.

Logan, who represented Bolton North East until Parliament dissolved, expressed that the Tory Party has become 'unrecognizable.' He won his seat in 2019 with a narrow majority of 378 votes.

Logan, who was a Brexit supporter, declared his intent to join Labour and step down as an MP, though he did not dismiss a future return to public life.

Labour has already chosen a candidate for his former constituency.

Addressing queries, Conservative spokespeople emphasized the party's focus on a brighter future and noted that Logan faced internal issues regarding inactivity.

Logan recalls the optimistic 1997 Labour campaign and hopes for fresh ideas and stability in the UK.

Despite his past support for Rishi Sunak, Logan highlighted Keir Starmer and the new Labour cabinet as motivating factors for his decision.

He also mentioned how Labour's stance on international issues, such as the Gaza conflict, aligns with his views.

Logan is known for his background in the UK Foreign Office and his role as chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on China.

His departure follows similar moves by MPs Natalie Elphicke and Dan Poulter.
