The last two Fiestas will be kept by Ford, one in Germany and one for the company's UK heritage center.

The plant is being adapted to produce more electric cars, pushing out Fiesta production as Ford transitions to electrify its fleet to reduce CO2 emissions.

The Fiesta was first introduced in the UK in 1976 and spent many years at the top of best-selling car lists, outpacing the Ford Escort by over one million sales.

Globally, more than 22 million Fiestas have been produced.

Ford has also announced plans to end production of the Fiesta and Focus by 2025 as it aims to have an electric-only fleet in Europe by 2035.
