Souness was inspired to take on the challenge after meeting Isla Grist, a 14-year-old girl who suffers from the rare skin disease Epidermolysis bullosa.
Souness, who is 70 years old, broke down in tears during an interview with the BBC as he described the disease as "the cruellest out there." He swam alongside Isla's father and other team members, completing the 21-mile swim in 12 hours and 17 minutes.
Souness and the team raised money for Debra UK, which supports people with the disease.
The charity congratulated the swimmers on their efforts.
Souness and Isla have become firm friends over the years, and he described her as an inspiration to him.
