Severe flooding in several areas of Northern Ireland, including counties Down, Armagh, and Antrim, has caused significant damage to crops, according to the Ulster Farmers' Union (UFU).
The union reported that many farmers have lost a substantial amount of their crops due to the wet weather, and whatever produce survives may be of lower quality. Farmers had invested heavily in producing premium crops, making the flooding a major setback.
Derek Erwin, a potato farmer in the Ards peninsula, mentioned that the extreme weather conditions, including the wettest July, have negatively impacted his harvest. The UFU has been working with politicians to raise awareness of the challenges faced by affected farmers.
