Five Greek Police Officers Stand Trial for Alleged Migrant Trafficking

The officers, who serve in a special border guard unit, are accused of cooperating with human traffickers to facilitate the entry of at least 100 migrants into the country.

They are suspected of taking a cut from the money received by traffickers to bring migrants across the border.

The officers were arrested last Monday in the border town of Didymoteicho and confiscated cash and mobile phones.

The case has aroused suspicion due to the officers' unusual volunteering to patrol together and over 2,000 pages of phone transcripts.

The officers are being held in custody pending trial and the investigation is ongoing.
