The 1980s British children's TV series "Super Gran" is set for a potential feature-length reboot, following the success of adaptations like Paddington Bear and Peter Rabbit.
Welsh writer Keri Collins, who recently topped the 2023 Brit List for unproduced scripts, has penned the screenplay for this movie. "Super Gran," originally aired on Children's ITV, featured a grandmother with superpowers fighting villains.
Collins' film version focuses on a dyslexic 12-year-old boy who discovers that his grandmother has superpowers and a secret base. They join forces to thwart a villain seeking to profit from climate change.
The story aims to resonate with both children and adults, drawing on climate change awareness and the special bond between grandparents and grandchildren.
The project benefits from Collins’ insights gained from his mentorship with filmmaker Kenneth Branagh. Collins hopes to emulate the success of similar family-friendly movies, blending nostalgia and modern themes to appeal to a wide audience.
