FCCA commits to returning cruise ships to VI for longer stays

President of the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) Ms Michelle Paige following a meeting with Premier Andrew A. Fahie (R1) has committed to having the Virgin Islands (VI) be one of the first recipients of cruise ships in the region.

This decision comes after Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Fahie met with Ms Paige on June 3, 2021, to discuss a safe return of the cruise industry to the British Virgin Islands.

FCCA wants locals to benefit the most – Ms Paige


According to the Premier, he was pleased to have had a thorough discussion with the FCCA to fine-tune what the cruising experience in the VI will be like post COVID-19.

“We are not just looking at the return of the ships to the Virgin Islands. But, also about how Virgin Islanders and residents have a stake in the industry through employment with cruise liners and potential entrepreneurial ventures,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ms Paige also pledged her commitment to allowing the people of the VI to reap the full benefits of cruise tourism.

“The ships will be staying longer, to be able to penetrate having the passengers having a more in-depth stay in the BVI,” she said.

The FCCA President advised locals to give the tourist an experience that underlines what is unique and special about the BVI including its culture, customs, and foods and all things produced in the Territory.

“This is your time to shine because Happy passengers spend money, those passengers will have a phenomenal time and will want to come back time and time again as hotel guests,” she said.

Ms. Paige also noted that she was pleased to work along diligently with Premier Fahie to be able to have the people of the VI benefit fully from the industry.
