Louis Vuitton explores impressionism to a whole new level with their Women’s FW21 Collection: A body of work clearly influenced by the Greco-Roman architecture and culture of ancient Greece. From its prints right down to its motifs, you can’t help but recognise the historical themes of mythology in the transversal collection.

Designer Nicolas Ghesquière heavily references specific drawings by Italian artistic design atelier Fornasetti and calls on three goddesses of the Odyssey - Diana, Venus, and Minerva: Goddess of the hunt, goddess of beauty and love, and goddess of strategy, intelligence and wisdom respectively for his designs.

“As a designer who has always loved fashion’s ability to evoke the past, present and future simultaneously, I wanted to add new layers to this creative palimpsest. Exploring the Fornasetti archives had the excitement of an archaeological dig, searching for and finding drawings from the past to give them a new life for Louis Vuitton – for now and the future,” says Ghesquière.

The result? A steady mix of contemporary and traditional ready-to-wear ensembles in the shape of intriguing prints, gladiator-esque shapes - inspired by the Goddess Diana, ancient motifs, voluminous skirts, puffer jackets, and lurex tailoring that keep history alive.
