Ex-Police Officer Faked Child-Trafficking Stories to Raise Funds
Adam Whittington, founder of Project Rescue Children, fabricated child-trafficking stories to raise donations. A BBC investigation uncovered that funds often did not reach the intended children, and supposed rescue centers were family homes. Celebrity endorsements helped raise significant funds, but most were mismanaged.
Adam Whittington, an ex-police officer and founder of Project Rescue Children (PRC), has been exposed for fabricating stories of child trafficking to raise funds for his charity.
Whittington, a British-Australian citizen, claimed to have rescued over 700 children in countries like Uganda, Kenya, and The Gambia.
However, a BBC File on 4 investigation revealed that some of these children were never trafficked, and raised funds often did not reach the intended beneficiaries.
Celebrity endorsements, including from Sam Faiers of 'The Only Way is Essex,' helped PRC gather significant donations.
But evidence showed that less than half of £137,000 ($175,000) raised for a rescue center in Uganda was actually used for the project.
Further, the supposed PRC rescue centers in Kenya and The Gambia were found to be family homes with no rescued children.
Whittington is currently in Russia and has set up multiple charitable organizations in various countries.
His social media accounts have been subject to scrutiny, with some banned or content removed.
